What is an IPL Photofacial?
If sun damage or dark spots are keeping you from feeling confident about your appearance, an intense pulsed light (IPL) photofacial may be an excellent way to renew your skin. An IPL photofacial is a noninvasive skin rejuvenation treatment for women and men with hyperpigmentation concerns on their neck and face, such as redness, blotchiness, and age spots. Performed by the aesthetic team at Starwood Med Spa in Frisco and Plano, TX, IPL facials work through intense wavelengths of light that warm the skin to trigger the natural regeneration process and boost the production of collagen. As the skin heals, you should begin to see a healthier glow with an improved tone and a reduction in the appearance of pigmented areas. For more on this laser skin treatment, contact our team today!

How Does IPL Work?
Ideal candidates for an IPL photofacial at Starwood Med Spa are often those who have sun damage, rosacea, brown spots, rough texture, large pores, redness, freckles, sun spots, or dilated capillaries. Performed in our well-appointed private treatment rooms, an IPL facial is generally completed in about 20 – 30 minutes and carries little to no downtime. Once you're prepared, we will perform the photofacial by passing a light-emitting handheld device evenly over your skin. While you should have visible results after the first treatment, optimal results may be attained over 3 – 6 sessions scheduled about one month apart.
How soon will I see results from an IPL photofacial?
Some improvements are noticeable after your initial IPL session, but the most optimal outcomes are seen after several months. This is because your skin needs time to heal in between appointments. While there is no standard recovery time for IPL, we can give you a more specific timeline during your consultation.
What are the side effects of IPL?
Patients scheduled for IPL should avoid sun exposure and retinol products several weeks prior to their appointment. This minimizes your risk of complications and prevents more serious side effects after treatment. Most side effects are mild to moderate but could include redness, swelling, and flaking skin.
Why do I need multiple IPL sessions?
Starwood Med Spa recommends scheduling 3 – 6 sessions one month apart, so your skin has time to heal naturally. This allows us to deliver slow but noticeable changes to your skin over time. Our sessions are designed to create improvements that are not only safe but also long-lasting.
